AREAS OF EXPERTISE
Focused expertise in the areas that matter most
Most therapists offer a broad range of services. This practice is different — built around four deeply interconnected areas where Noson has spent years developing clinical depth and specialized training.
01 Couples Therapy
02 Sex & Intimacy
03 Trauma
04 Addictive Behaviors
Couples therapy at Berman Counseling isn't about learning scripts or communication techniques. It's about understanding the deeper emotional patterns and attachment cycles that drive conflict, distance, and disconnection — and changing them at the source.
Noson works with couples at every stage: those in acute crisis, those navigating a specific rupture, and those who simply feel that something important has drifted. Whether the relationship continues or ends, the goal is clarity, honesty, and a process both partners feel was fair.
His couples work integrates Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Developmental Model, the Gottman Method, and Relational Life Therapy — drawing from whichever framework best fits the couple in the room.

Most therapists avoid the topic of sex. Either they lack training, feel uncomfortable, or redirect the conversation elsewhere. Noson doesn't. He holds a Certificate in Sex Therapy from the Buehler Institute, has completed the SAR program through the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute, and holds advanced ATSIP certification (Levels I and II) through the Institute for Relational Intimacy.
Sex therapy at this practice is clinical, direct, and non-judgmental. No topic is off the table — desire, function, shame, identity, compulsive sexual behavior, or the intimate life of an observant couple navigating halacha. Every conversation is held with care and expertise.
For many clients, this is the first time they've been able to speak openly about their sexual lives with a professional who has the training to actually help.

Trauma work at Berman Counseling goes well beyond traditional talk therapy. Noson is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level II (CCTP-II) and has completed advanced training in trauma treatment, adolescent trauma, and somatic approaches through multiple institutions.
For individuals, this means working with trauma that lives in the body — using EMDR, somatic and Reichian therapy, IFS, and inner child work to reach what insight and conversation alone cannot access. Many clients come having tried other forms of therapy that didn't go deep enough.
For couples, trauma often shows up without a label — in the withdrawal, the reactivity, the disconnection after betrayal. Noson's trauma-informed lens allows him to see these patterns at their source, including specialized work with betrayal trauma and infidelity recovery.

Noson approaches addictive and compulsive behaviors through a trauma-informed lens — understanding that most addictions are rooted in unmet emotional needs, unprocessed pain, or learned patterns of coping that once served a purpose. He is a Certified Addictions-Informed Mental Health Professional (CAIMHP) and began his clinical career working with at-risk youth and families navigating addiction.
This work focuses on what's underneath the behavior — exploring the emotional triggers, relational dynamics, and the shame that keeps the cycle going. It also addresses addiction's profound impact on couple relationships, where secrecy, broken trust, and role disruption create their own kind of damage.
Noson works with individuals and couples where addiction — to substances, pornography, sex, or other compulsive patterns — is part of the presenting picture.
